Session Summary: 01 - The Treasure Map
⚓ The Voyage Begins
The Spanish Inquisition hired the crew, alongside Beltran de ordaz and Mother Iris, to find the wreck of the Silent Angel. The crew received 100s upfront, and Beltran agreed to split the profits from any recovered treasure or salvage 50/50.
They arrived at Eel Island and headed deep into the jungle, only to soon discover they had been betrayed by their bosun, Mr. Oxley. Chased by an unknown adversary, the crew fled back to the beach, only to find their dinghy missing and the Wharf rat sailing away toward the horizon.
⚔️ Combat & Encounters
- Beach Ambush & The Undead: The beach was suddenly swarming with The Redcoats, sparking a fierce firefight. Mid-battle, pirate zombies emerged behind the Redcoats and began attacking them. The Redcoats fled in terror, leaving the crew to fight the undead, which they successfully defeated after an intense skirmish.
- The Silent Angel & The Skeleton Captain: The crew discovered the Silent Angel hanging upside down in some overgrown ruins, precariously supported by thick vines. After devising a plan, they carefully cut the vines with their swords, bringing the ship crashing to the ground. Forcing open the jammed door to the captain’s quarters, the skeletal body of the former captain fell on them, a wooden spoon jammed in its eye socket. When a crew member removed the spoon, the skeleton animated and attacked! The crew destroyed it, claiming the first half of a Treasure map, some silver, weapons, and ammo.
🗺️ Revelations & Artifacts
Furious and stranded on the beach, the crew demanded answers from Beltran de ordaz. He revealed that the true objective was the map hidden on the Silent Angel, which supposedly leads to a powerful artifact known as The Tongue of Thoth.
⚖️ Trade & Rumors
- The Ash Farmers: Heading north, the crew took a small rowboat across a watery channel to an area riddled with dig holes and warning signs (a zombie with an ‘X’ crossed over it). Carefully navigating the traps, they met Pire and Dodson, who live in an overturned ship on the porch. The duo revealed they harvest hanging, dried zombies to create the drug Ash. They offered a sample to the crew, getting one of the members briefly high.
- The Missing Captain: Dodson and Pire explained they haven’t heard from their leader, Captain Gravestock, since he left for Gibbet Town.
- The Bargain: When Beltran asked about The Tongue of Thoth, Pire and Dodson were shocked and demanded to know what the crew knew. After some tense haggling, Pire admitted that Captain Gravestock holds the second half of the treasure map. Dodson desperate to leave Eel Island and reunite with his wife and son and Pire struck a deal with the crew: they will provide their boat and help the crew find Gravestock in exchange for joining forces.
